General Questions

1. How do I get a trial version?

No trial version is available. This is because PyxisProfit will generate key business informatioin on the first run. This includes a recommended hourly charge or markup or a combination of both. Pre release market research from real businesses indicated that we should not have a trial version, but to show videos of the product being used in various senarios and to make the product available on an affordable subscription basis.

2. What operating systems are supported?

PyxisProfit is available for both Windows and Apple computers. The application can be installed on all recent Windows platform computers. PyxisProfit can be installed on Apple computers with Intel processors. 

2b. How do I know if my Apple computer has an Intel processor?

Click on the Apple icon on top left. Click the first item in the list that appears (About this Mac). Processor type will be displayed. However, if you do have a Mac with a PowerPC processor, please send us an email. If even a small number of requests are made for a PowerPC version, of PyxisProfit we can make one available.

3. How much does PyxisProfit cost?

PyxisProfit is available on a subscription bases. The subscription varies, depending your number of employees. Check this section for pricing details.

4. I don't see a download link for PyxisProfit. 

When your subscription is confirmed, a download link will be sent to you via email.

5. I live in the UK. Is there a versiion available for my area?

PyxisProfit is being developed for Sterling area. This version will be released in November 2013. Other language versions for the Euro area will also become available throughout 2014.

6. Can I prepare quotations with PyxisProfit?

Yes, PyxisProfit is ideally suited to creating quotations. You can enter your customers (or import from another application), select the relevant customer, prepare a quotation, and email that quotation directly to that customer. All sent emails and quotations are saved and can be re-opened at any time in the future.

7. I have a small service business. Is there any way to monitor my jobs in PyxisProfit?

Yes, if a quotation becomes a live job, it can be converted to an order. All current orders can be selected at any time. When the job is complete, it can be marked complete, and removed from the orders list. It is not deleted and can be re-opened at any time in the future.

8. Can I prepare my accounts with PyxisProfit?

PyxisProfit is not an accounts package. However, the data used in PyxisProfit can be exported and then imported into other applications, including accounts package. 

9. I have the 5 employee version of PyxisProfit. How do I upgrade to the 10 employee version and will my data be lost?

Yes you can upgrade at any time. No data is lost. Simply install the supplied upgrade and continue using as before.

Using the Application

10. I accidentially quit the getting started wizard. How do I get it back?

The getting started wizard is available on the bottom right of the Welcome tab.

11. I am trying to import a file but the tab character doesn't work even though I exported the file with a Tab. What should I do?

Try checking the custom delimiter, and then entering a \t (back-slash and lower case letter t).

12. I don't understand the trend information in the business monitor. What do the + and - figures mean?

These are simply the change in income and expenditure over the average month. A + symbol indicates that the figure has increased and obviously a - figure means the relevant figure is below average.

13. My business started in January 2009. Should I tick the Monitor Business From check-box?

No. Only check this if you wish to record business data from a month other than January, the application will automatically detect the year based on the data you enter. However, if you are choosing a month other than January, then you must choose the relevant year too.

14. One of my employees works two days in admin and does chargeable work for three days. How should I enter their details?

In this case, enter the employee twice. The application will allow this, but it will give a different ID each time you enter that employee, as it does for all new employees entered. Remember to tick the Chargeable check-box for the three-day work period and enter the appropriate productivity for those days.

15. I want to use the Business Monitor for last year, how should I do this?

The Business Monitor always generates a 'here and now' report. It is based on your current overheads, income and expenditure. The idea is to help the user make informed decisions based on how their business is performing at any given time. So, to answer your question, there is no way of running the monitor for any specific period. It will always be based on day, month and year you click the Start button!

16. If I add a Markup of 200 percent to my product, what is my margin?

Markup and margin are often confused. Markup is the the amount you add; while Margin is its percentage of the total. It can be helpful to visualise this using building blocks, for example. If you have one block, imagine this as the original sum. If you add 200 percent, you add two more building blocks exactly like the original. So you now have three building blocks. So in this case the original makes up one third or 33.33 percent - and the extra two blocks equal 66.66 percent of the total or, in other words,  66.66 percent Margin. 

17. I need to create a quotation for multiple quantities. How do I do this?

This option is only available when you choose a manufacturing business.

18. Can I record my stock in PyxisProfit?

No. this option is not available at present. However, it is being planned for the next major upgrade.

19. I upgraded my PyxisProfit. The getting started wizard appeared and my data is gone. Do I have to input it again?

No. Unless you specifically deleted your data it is still there. You simply installed the upgrade in the wrong folder. For this reason it is always a good idea to follow the default settings when installing and upgrading PyxisProfit. Do a search on your system for PyxisProfit to locate where you originally installed the application. Then simply choose this directory for the upgrade. The upgraded version will then automatically connect to the original data. Current upgrades install similar to a first-time install. Note. We strongly recommend regularly exporting all of your tables to network drive or memory stick, for example, just in case of a computer malfunction. Export options are located at the Utilities section.
